Interested in Volunteering with the Alaska Humane Society Adopt-A-Cat Shelter?
There are many ways to volunteer at AHS:
On site at the shelter (must be 16 years or older but we do welcome volunteers ages 12 – 15 with adult supervision at all times).
See information below regarding required training.
- Work a weekly shift from 7pm-9pm Monday – Friday or 1pm-3pm on Sunday. Please let us know if you are interested in Saturday opportunities. Duties include scooping litter boxes, washing water bowls, refilling food and water bowls, sweeping, mopping and finally, petting and socializing cats.
- Come in weekly to socialize with the cats (this helps them become more adoptable).
- Participate in periodically scheduled “deep cleaning” days.
Outside the shelter
- Participate in informational “pop-up” events at places around Anchorage. Past events include Fashion Pact, Anchorage Animal Control, and the Anchorage Senior Center. These events allow us to inform the public about the shelter and what we do.
- Participate in fundraising events like the AHS Garage Sale.
- Join an AHS board committee (fundraising, PR, etc.).
- Join our foster community and give our cats a safe, loving home outside the shelter environment.
- Share your expertise (e.g., fund raising, newsletter, grant writing, website development, carpentry, electrical work, legal review of documents, etc.). We would love to talk with you about how your skills can support us!
