Adopt-A-Cat Shelter

About Our Shelter

The Adopt-a-Cat shelter provides a loving, safe, and comfortable home for cats in need. Our shelter is open-concept; our cats roam freely around our two-story warehouse, which has cat trees, beds, toys, hidey holes, and ramps for them to rest or explore as they wish!

All of our cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested for feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunovirus (FIV), and micro-chipped. The cats that call our shelter home are a mix of adoptable, sanctuary (learn about our sanctuary program here), or adoptables-in-training. Our warehouse is spacious enough that our cats can find their own personal space and many of them form lasting friendships with other cats!

Our shelter is made up of four main spaces: the New Cat Room, Office, Shy Cat Room, and Main Floor (upstairs and downstairs).

The New Cat Room is where new kitties, whether they are sanctuary, live-trapped, owner-surrenders, or taken into our program from our rescue partner, Anchorage Animal Care and Control, spend the first 2-4 weeks of their time at the shelter.

Before entering the main spaces of the shelter, the cats in the New Cat Room need to visit the veterinarian and get a clean bill of health! Once we have that clean bill of health, cats will be moved to either the Office, Shy Cat Room, or Main Floor. The Office is home to our special kitties who need medication or a little peace and quiet.

The Shy Cat Room is on the second floor of the shelter and is where our more shy cats stay. This room is smaller than the main floor, which makes it possible for our devoted volunteers to spend time socializing with these cats to prepare them for their forever home! Finally, the Main Floor of the shelter is where visitors will spend most of their time. This is where most of our kitties hang out and play!
